On Tuesday, August 23 the Kern County Board of Supervisors met to discuss the budget and make decisions concerning the budget cuts for the 2016-2017 fiscal year.
Due to decreases in the cost of oil and deficits in county tax revenue because of those decreases, the county is currently required to adopt hefty budget cuts to maintain a fiscally sound budget policy in Kern County. From the general fund, these cuts are being applied to all departments equally. By doing this in the public safety as well as the non-public safety departments, the county hopes to prevent draconian cuts on departments outside of public safety.
